Who Is Bill Watson
Hi! I’m Bill Watson. Nice to meet you!
And welcome to my blog.
I’m a happily married 37 year old male from Ocala, FL.
I was originally going to write a bit about my childhood but that kinda sucked so I’ll just move on to something more interesting.
At the age of 13 or 14 is when I got my first computer. It was about 1984 and I got a TI-99A for Christmas. LoL
I was so excited. I learned to program it and record my programs to cassette tape. I used to take it back and forth from my Dad’s house in Bradenton, FL..
Soon after that I got my first real guitar and it didn’t take me long to learn how to play
it either. I had a guitar before but it was kinda crappy and I learned a few things on it and gave up because it sucked. But this new guitar made me forget about computers for a LONG time. I thought it was awesomest thing since freakin homemade lasagna! Heck I used to sleep with the damn thing right next to me like a security blanket. I was a lonely kid I guess
but I learned how to play.
Then after I graduated high school and went to college for electronics repair I started getting into computers heavy again. That’s when Windows 3.0 first came out. It freakin mesmerized me, and DOS was even more intriguing to me. I’d stay late in the lab for hours just exploring DOS and peeking around in directories I wasn’t supposed to be in and just basically learning as much as I could.
I dropped out of college after I was about three quarters of the way through because of financial troubles and have been in and out since for electronics and computers. I still haven’t finished college yet!
Never got enough credits at a time and never got a degree. It seems like every time I try to go back to school something gets in my way and usually it’s because I don’t have enough time. I love my hobbies and getting hands on experience and I hate learning crap from a book that someone else told me I had to read. I’m stubborn and rebelious in that aspect. I wanna learn what *I* wanna learn when *I* wanna learn it.
In the mean time I learn about what I wanna learn about independently using the internet and various books that I’ve bought at barnes and noble and books-a-million.
So about a year after dropping out of college I got my first windows computer and then I discovered the Local BBS’s (Bulletin Board Systems) Wow what a concept! I could call someone elses computer on the phone and leave messages and play games and meet people and do all kinds of cool stuff. I loved it! So I started my own BBS! I named it Dark Sun BBS after a popular Dungeons And Dragons game that I was into playing at the time. That’s when I got addicted to writing posts and serving up interesting content.
Then along came the Internet. Wow what a wonderland! You could log into a unix shell on someone’s BBS and use the telnet program to access other BBS’s that had put their board online. Peoples BBS’s were going global because of telnet it was awesome!
And then while exploring inside one of these new “unix boxes” I found a program I could use to view “hypertext markup language” what? What the heck was that I wondered, so I checked it out and WOW! You could view these internet sites that had sidebars and links and pretty graphics and all kinds of neat stuff. Most websites back then were made of strictly hyperlinks (they didn’t even call them links they were “hyperlinks” LoL
but ocassionally I would find one with pictures and it amazed me.
So I’ve been learning as much as I can about all this stuff ever since (when I’m not working)
What are my hobbies you ask? I’ve had many hobbies from playing guitar and writing and recording music to building electronics and robots. I guess you could say I’m a jack of all hobbies but master of none.
Mostly what I know is electronics, computers, robotics and music.
Sometimes I like to fly an out of the box model plane or helicopter but nothing serious like building them myself or anything.
Robots on the other hand I build from scratch using torn apart electronics, toys and gear motors and such using the BEAM philosophy of building robots developed by Mark Tilden.
I actually thought about making a blog just for robot building but making robots is a time consuming process. The info on the blog would end up rolling out ever so slowly because I’d be spending most of my time building and testing my robots instead of blogging about them.
I haven’t built a serious working robot in a few years. I really don’t have a space to work on them where I live now and I have really gotten into blogging lately so I haven’t much time. I still have all my equipment and some neat plans I drew up for an all terrain walking Mars Rover that I plan on finishing one day though.
Basically I’m a pretty positive kind of guy that likes to play and learn and joke around and stuff. I hate drama and negativity but I have learned to deal with it somewhat in my working environment. I’m a cook in an italian restaraunt, plus I frreelance on the side a little (when I have clients).
The restaraunt work is rewarding sometimes but It takes up too much of my time. I always get suckered into supervising the store because I’m the only one that can do it. And right now it doesn’t really pay much because I’m trying to help them get back on their feet. Freelancing doesn’t pay much either considering the headache I get.
What I really want to do is save up the money to buy a novelty shop or something in St. Augustine and just have a nice little family walk in store and connect it to the internet for increased sales. And a then I’m gonna buy a big a__ boat and some big a__ fishing poles and go fishin’ for a LONG a__ time!
I see you have a bunch of stuff about UFO’s and Ghosts on your blog Bill. What’s that all about?
Well, I’ve had this interest in UFO’s and Paranormal stuff all my life since I was a little kid. I guess what started it was some recurring dreams I had at a very young age about aliens dragging me off through the closet. I’ve had 3 UFO sightings and they were all pretty incredible. I never really used to talk about it much out in the real world out of fear of being ridiculed but I just don’t care what people think of me anymore. If they can’t handle who I really am then they need to go away
I’ve already posted a little story about the aliens dragging me off. I think I’ll write about all my UFO/Alien related experiences in posts here pretty soon and then I’m going to put the stories up as pages on the site so stay tuned, they’re all pretty interesting.
I didn’t mean for this page to be so long but I figured some of you would be interested in who the heck is writing all this stuff and why.
I hope you liked my little bio page and it didn’t bore you to death. I just wanted tell everyone a little bit about myself.
Check out my Twitter, FaceBook and YouTube channel to learn more about what I’m doing right now.
