Is 2012 Going To Be The End Of The World?

I’ve noticed that people have been talking more and more about the Mayan calendar and 2012 and what’s going to happen when that date rolls around. Lots of people say it’s the end of civilization as we know it. Some say it’s the end. Some say it’s a new beginning.

There are many who believe the earths poles are going to switch polarity. Some say we are going to pass through the galaxy’s “equator” and we’ll experience strange and devastating gravitational anomalies.

Some believe a change of consciousness, a heightened awareness and a sense of oneness with our planet is coming. If there are major global disasters I can see how people would come together and learn to live in harmony with each other and our planet again. That’s the way it should be. This planet is our only home. We should take better care of it and listen to it more.

I think Carlos Barrios explains it best; “At sunrise on December 21, 2012 for the first time in 26,000 years the Sun rises to conjunct the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic. This cosmic cross is considered to be an embodiment of the Sacred Tree, The Tree of Life, a tree remembered in all the world’s spiritual traditions. Some observers say this alignment with the heart of the galaxy in 2012 will open a channel for cosmic energy to flow through the earth, cleansing it and all that dwells upon it, raising all to a higher level of vibration.”

This process has already begun, Mr. Barrios suggested.

“Change is accelerating now, and it will continue to accelerate.” If the people of the earth can get to this 2012 date in good shape, without having’ destroyed too much of the Earth, Mr. Barrios said, we will rise to a new, higher level.

“But to get there we must transform enormously powerful forces that seek to block the way.”

I heard a rumor that our atmosphere could get stripped away.
If you research chemtrails and geo engineering you might find out that our atmosphere may already be failing. It’s just a rumor as far as I know though. I found some interesting articles but no real proof yet.

There IS proof that our atmosphere has a whole lot more carbon than ever before and it’s growing almost exponentially and worsening the global warming situation. It’s getting really bad. We’re talking billions of tons per year. Look up Carbon Emissions, Global Warming and GeoEngineering on google. If you search for chemtrails you will find some stuff too.

Science has already confirmed that we will have increased sunspot activity by about 2012 which will be a bad situation for our satellites. Man I remember when sunspots used to be cool. The new featured video is about sun spots and 2012. To see it click “Signs Of The End” or go to the blog and you can watch it on the right hand sidebar at the top of the page.

So what would you do if you only had 5 years left to prepare for a global disaster and you didn’t even know the nature of it?

I know what I’m going to do. I’ll tell you about it in a bit. I’ll also tell you why. But first, some facts and a little speculation about the Mayan calendar.

The Mayan Calendar has been accurate at predicting astrological events for about five thousand years with a difference of only about 37 seconds or so. The end of the calendars cycle is on Dec. 21, 2012 and it causes alot of controversy among conspiracy theorists, theologians, philosophers, historians and truth seekers among others, including regular people like you and me.

Here is what the Wiki says about Dec. 21, 2012:
“December 21, 2012: The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the Maya civilization among others of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, completes its thirteenth b’ak’tun cycle since the calendar’s mythical starting point (equivalent to 3114 BC August 11 in the proleptic Gregorian calendar, according to the “GMT-correlation” JDN= 584283).[7] The Long Count b’ak’tun date of this starting point (13.0.0.0.0) is repeated, for the first time in a span of approximately 5,125 solar years. The significance of this period-ending to the pre-Columbian Maya themselves is unclear, and there is an incomplete inscription (Tortuguero Stela 6) that records this date. It is also to be found carved on the walls of the Temple of Inscriptions in Palenque, where it functions as a base date from which other dates are computed.[8] However, it is conjectured that this may represent in the Maya belief system a transition from the current Creation world into the next. The December solstice for 2012 also occurs on this day. ”

- Some people have concluded that the Mayan calendar ends on Oct. 28, 2011. I have no idea how they came up with this. I saw it in this video from Airstream Indie Radio (whoever that is).

What exactly is the Mayan calendar?
The Mayan people were geniuses when it comes to mathematics, time and calendars. They believed that time repeated itself in cycles and devised two calendars based on this. One was a ritualistic calendar and was used for religious celebrations and astrological events. The other was a Solar calendar. Both were based on a calculation that a year had a little more than 365 days (a more precise system than our present day Gregorian calendar).

Some little known facts about the Mayan Calendar.
Although they may not be credited with it, the Maya discovered precession by recording events and locations of stars in the heavens for hundreds of years. Precession is a term used to describe the way the earth “wobbles” through the heavens. Every so many thousands of years (I can’t find the exact stats right now) the north pole points to a different spot in the sky. Right now Polaris is considered to be the north star but after 2012 that is supposed to change and the transition is rumored in mythology to be somewhat cataclysmic.

“The Maya kept time with a combination of several cycles that meshed together to mark the movement of the sun, moon and Venus. Their ritual calendar, known as the Tzolkin, was composed of 260 days. It pairs the numbers from 1 through 13 with a sequence of 20 day-names. It works something like our days of the week pairing with the numbers of the month. Thus you might have 1-Imix (similar to Sunday the 1st) followed by 2-Ik (just as you would have Monday the 2nd). When you get to 13-Ben, the next day would start the numbers over again, thus 1-Ix, 2-Men etc. It will take 260 days before the cycle gets back to 1-Imix again (13 x 20).

The 20 day-names, meaning and symbol can vary in different Maya languages. Also, each day can be represented with more elaborate glyphs known as “Head Variants” - a formal writing system which can be loosely compared to our script alphabet versus our print alphabet. The Tzolkin calendar was meshed with a 365-day solar cycle called the “Haab”. The calendar consisted of 18 months with 20 days (numbered 0-19) and a short “month” of only 5 days that was called the Wayeb and was considered to be a dangerous time. It took 52 years for the Tzolkin and Haab calendars to move through a complete cycle.

These are the Mayan words for periods of time:

Day = Kin (keen)
Month of 20 days = Uinal (wee nal)
Year of 360 days = Tun (toon)
20 Tuns = K’atun (k’ ah toon)
20 K’atuns = Baktun (bock toon)

Maya Astronomy
The Maya were quite accomplished astronomers. Their primary interest, in contrast to “western” astronomers, were Zenial Passages when the Sun crossed over the Maya latitudes. On an annual basis the sun travels to its summer solstice point, or the latitude of 23-1/3 degrees north.

Most of the Maya cities were located south of this latitude, meaning that they could observe the sun directly overhead during the time that the sun was passing over their latitude. This happened twice a year, evenly spaced around the day of solstice.

The Maya could easily determine these dates, because at local noon, they cast no shadow. Zenial passage observations are possible only in the Tropics and were quite unknown to the Spanish conquistadors who descended upon the Yucatan peninsula in the 16th century. The Maya had a god to represented this position of the Sun called the Diving God. End of the Mayan Great Cycle: December 21st, 2012 A.D.

Scholars today are recognizing that Mayan mythology is intimately related to the celestial movements of stars, the Milky Way and certain constellations. The sources of Mayan mythology are found in the sky, and the timetable of Creation Day is pinpointed by the end date of the Mayan Great Cycle. My research into the nature of this date reveals that a rare celestial alignment culminates on it. Generally speaking, what occurs is an alignment between the galactic and solar planes. Specifically, the winter solstice sun will conjunct the Milky Way, which is the edge of our spinning galaxy as viewed from earth. Furthermore, the place where the sun meets the Milky Way is where the “dark-rift” in the Milky Way is - a black ridge along the Milky Way caused by interstellar dust clouds.”

Don’t take one persons word for it try googling Mayan Calendar and 2012. There are some great videos about it on google video. Try searching for “Secrets of the Mayan Calendar” or “Mayan Prophesy”.

Why should anyone believe something major will happen in 2012? The Mayan calendar has accurately predicted astrological events within about 37 seconds for the last five thousand years. You’d have to be crazy to ignore that.

Surviving 2012:
I don’t think 2012 will be the end of the world but I do believe it will be a time of great transition. People will die and there will be hardships. All we can do is try to be ready whether something is going to happen or not. Instead of shrugging things off as “impossible” I believe it’s always best to be prepared for the worst.

Being prepared probably doesn’t mean you’ll need to dig a bunker or fallout shelter but it does mean you’ll need to stock up on some supplies. You might wanna learn some survival skills like how to grow a vegetable garden, how to hunt for and trap animals for food, how to make bread the old fashioned way.

I think we will all have to go back to some of the old ways for awhile. Survival skills are probably the most important skills you can develop to get ready for the coming years, You can get some good survival books from amazon.com or any retail bookstore. An alternative means of generating electricity would be helpful too.

What am I going to do?
I plan to start by creating a portable solar power station that will be housed in my truck for the time being. It will use durable, efficient solar panels to charge several marine batteries and when there’s no sunshine my alternator will charge them while I drive. I already have two power inverters and I am going to buy some DC appliances like they have on sailboats and in RV’s. They use about a quarter of the electricity that AC appliances do.

You can buy DC washers, dryers, refrigerators and freezers, bed warmers, heaters and the list goes on. (In case you didn’t know, people are already installing portable solar power houses in the back of their trucks in countries like Belize South America and Brazil to use as their primary power to run small appliances and lights in the home). You can take a look at the solar panels I am planning on getting here. And you can find all sorts of DC appliances here. They’re at survivalunlimited.com. Very cool store.

We may be moving before 2012 too. I’m not sure where but Georgia and Tennessee keep popping up in my mind for some reason and I usually listen to my inner voice when it tells me things like that.

Some other good things to have that you can run off of batteries would be an electric water pump or sump pump, a small fan, small electric chainsaw and a water purifier. All of which I plan on getting soon.

I already have some essential camping equipment and survival equipment such as a dual fuel stove and lantern, tent, compass, star chart program for the computer (GPS could fail if there is sufficient sunspot or solar wind activity), rope, saws, knives, axe, shovel, machette and other essential survival tools.

Who knows if any of this will do me any good but I look at it this way; If nothing happens on Dec. 21, 2012 then I will be all set for any other kind of emergency. :-)

If the earths poles change polarity or shift in some way there could be survivors. If the earth is stripped of it’s atmosphere I guess we’re all just screwed because no amount of skills and equipment in the world can replace oxygen unless you stocked up on a bunch of O2 tanks from the medical supply or something.

If there is a heightening in global consciousness that would be cool. I’m not trying to offend anyone or anything but I see people all around me that seem like they’re sleeping. Just going through the day unaware of their surroundings or what’s going on around them like zombies. I notice it more and more all the time and I think maybe a wake up call is needed.

Either way I am ready to embrace whatever fate God sends me and if there is a cataclysm I hope I have the means to ensure that my wife and family and whomever else I can help will be among the survivors.

So is 2012 going to be the end of the world?
Well, probably not, but there is so much speculation and so many theories flying around about everything nowadays that you never really know what to believe anymore. So I just listen to that inner voice and do what it tells me and usually things end up fine. And it’s saying get ready because this ain’t no Y2K son.

I’ve been wanting to build my own independent power system for awhile now and they have finally created efficient enough solar panels to conform to my needs so I figure now is as good a time and 2012 is as good of an excuse as any to start getting prepared. I have this overwhelming desire to become more earth friendly anyway and this is the perfect opportunity to carry out my plans.
